additional DHCP server

Hello! I have ssg-140. My story& problem:

On interface ethernet0/5 I have DHCP server with addresses (for example) 192.168.10.1/24. Right now clients use almost all addresses from this network with short lease time, so I need to find the way how can I create an additional dhcp (for example with network 192.168.11.1/24) server on this interface. May be I should make some secondary IP or something other?

Thanks in advance!

Re: additional DHCP server

New day = new ideas. I can make new configuration for interface ethernet0/5 adn change it from 192.168.10.1/24 to /23. So i now i have an additional subnet.  But anyway i have problem. I cannot make dhcp server for this /23 net. How shuld i create or config my dhcp server on ssg-140 to make dhcp server with /23 subnet? Thanks!

Re: additional DHCP server

Hi,

you could change the interface IP to for example 192.168.8.1 / 22. That would give you 1022 host addresses.

Re: additional DHCP server

Thanks 4 answer, but already changed from /24 to /23 (for me its enough). But in dhcp server configuration under Addresses configuration i cannot make address allocation (in dynamic mode) for whole /23 net

[ Edited ]

If you define your interface address to 192.168.10.1/23, the host IP addresses range from 192.168.10.1 to 192.168.11.254.

So define a dynamic dhcp range within that range (of course excluding the gateway address and addresses of hosts that have static IP's configured).

Edit:

there seems to be some sort of limitation that prevents you from defining one range containing more then 255 IP's. You can define two ranges:

192.168.10.2 - 192.168.10.255

192.168.11.1 - 192.168.11.254

Re: additional DHCP server

Yeah, i know, but ssg-140 doesn't allow me create dynamic address allocation from 192.168.10.5 to 192.168.11.200. It says it can't create more than 255

Re: additional DHCP server

Thanks, but no luck..

First i create dynamic allocation:

192.168.10.60-192.168.10.254

Second i try to create 192.168.11.1-192.168.11.128, but juniper cuts this range to 192.168.11.1-192.168.11.60 :smileysad:

So i can't create more :smileysad:

Re: additional DHCP server

Had a better look at the documentation. You can group up to 255 IP addresses in up to 64 address pools...

Maybe running a separate DHCP server?
