external interface offline after line fault

Hi all,

 

we had a problem in our internet connection (at the provider) for about 2 hours. After 2 hours the line worked fine again, but the SSG5 had lost connectivity in the external interface. It seemed to be offline. The internal interface was connected (ping was successful), but no response on the external int. Reboot of the SSG solved the problem. Is there a way to automatically reconnect the external interface after line fault? (My problem is that I didn't notice when line will work again and I do not know when I have to reboot the SSG.)

Need more details. I would suggest you simulate an outage during a maintenance window. Then after you restore the connect, IF you see the same problem:
- use "get int" to see the status of the interface
- check "get arp" to see if the FW knows where the default gateway is
- check routing

There very well may be something else here. What kind of connection do you have? Is it PPPoE by any chance?

Thank you, I will ask the admin for a maintenance time and I will check if the error occurs again.
