JUNOS Training 101

by Juniper Employee ‎06-08-2009 09:43 AM - edited ‎06-08-2009 09:49 AM

Do you have any tips on the fastest way to learn JUNOS, if I'm already familiar with IOS?

As a Juniper sales engineer, it seems that I hear that question at least once a week. Here's how I respond.

Step One

Read through the JUNOS Day One booklet and then run through the online elearning conversion courses. All these resources are available at no charge, and you can download them for viewing off net. The booklet is only 64 pages, and the elearning courses are less than 120 minutes each.

Day One booklet:  http://junos.juniper.net/DayOneGuide/

JUNOS as a Second Language training: http://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/elearning/jsl.html

JUNOS as a Switching Language training: http://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/elearning/junos_switching.html

JUNOS as a Security Language training: http://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/elearning/junos_security.html

Step Two

Access the Juniper Fast Track program at the following URL:

http://www.juniper.net/us/en/training/fasttrack/

If you need to use an access number for the Fast Track portal you can use (and re-use) the following number:

ERCE02232535

The Fast Track program, available through 2009, provides you with official Juniper training material, exactly the same as used in our multi-day courses, at no charge. Read through these and take the online evaluation exam. After you pass, you can sign up for the certification exam at any Prometric Testing Center. The Fast Track program will cover 50% of the cost of the exam.

Optional Step

Finally, once you have got this far, it might be time to look at the service provider specific exams, if you are going to support such as network. These exams would be the JNCIA-M, JNCIS-M, JNCIP-M, and JNCIE-M. Training books for each of these exams are available at no harge from the following URLs. These books are now out of print but are still relevant to the exams.

Books

If you are able to purchase some books, I recommend the following. O'Reilly is currently having a 3 for the price of 2 sale on their website, so you can get the first three books in the list below for the price of 2 :smileyhappy: Which fairly much covers the cost of shipping while still making it much cheaper than purchasing them at the local bookstore.
