ScreenOS vs Junos – What you need to know before migrating products

by ‎11-03-2011 01:52 AM - edited ‎11-03-2011 01:52 AM

You all know I am a big fan of the Juniper Networks FW/VPN appliances (the old Netscreen firewalls/vpn). This was because of the ScreenOS was very powerful product. Essentially it is an easy and impressive OS, which had unbelievable debug features, but two years ago I came in contact with an even more powerful OS, this was Junos.

This was like a whole new world that had been opened up for me.

Juniper now offers an entry-level switch for the branch and low-density wiring closet: the EX2200. While the EX2200 does address this important part of the market, delivering a wire-speed IPv4/IPv6 unicast and multicast solution for all packet sizes, it is much more than that. It is also extending the Junos operating system further into the enterprise, and doing so at a very affordable price. Read more...

Product managers like me live to launch new products. By the time we take our first order, we've made thousands of decisions, considered hundreds of ideas, and heard from dozens of customers. It's a long road. In the specs-driven and detailed world of technology, keeping track of the big picture can be tough. So I thought I'd write a few words about what we had in mind for our new AX411 Wireless LAN Access Points. Read more...

In July, Juniper announced a brand new JUNOS Fast Track Certification Program, featuring a limited-time offer of 100% discounts on all JUNOS Enterprise Certifications. To say the program was a smash success would be a gross understatement. Read more...

Why Operate – when you can Automate?

by Trusted Contributor on ‎09-17-2009 12:30 PM - last edited on ‎11-09-2009 09:55 AM by

60 to 80% of IT work is repetitive. In challenging economic times, every business has a mandate to do more with less. Greater scale and lower operating cost are forces driving in opposite direction. How are you managing the demands for greater scale and enhanced functionality that introduce new complexity in your network?

I recently sat down with Jeff Mattan to discuss JUNOS and its built-in, powerful, yet flexible, tool sets for automation. Customers are embracing JUNOS to automate and simplify the configuration and operation of their networks. Watch our discussion and then check out the newly available JUNOS as a Scripting Language eLearning course.

Reducing the Costs of New JUNOS Deployments

According to a recent study commissioned by Juniper, deploying JUNOS® Software can save time and operational costs in running the network. The study results are great news for the reliability and savings you can experience once JUNOS is deployed in your network, but how can you reduce the initial effort of deployment? fcmvwd2jqu

Now Shipping: The EX8216

by Juniper Employee on ‎05-13-2009 01:55 PM - last edited on ‎08-06-2009 04:05 PM by

Juniper Networks started shipping the EX8216 on May 1, 2009, one quarter after the launch of the EX8208. Releasing two such large-scale projects back-to-back would not have been possible without the extraordinary dedication of our engineering team, and I’d like to take a moment to recognize their accomplishments. Doubling the EX8208’s density was not a trivial exercise; everything from the ASICs to power and cooling needed to be planned in advance, while systems and software had to be designed, built and tested in parallel. One advantage of this approach was that any issue found on one platform could be fixed on the other at the same time, and the EX8208 backplane and EX8216 midplane could provide identical interfaces to the EX8200 line cards. As a result, when we first powered up the EX8216 early last year, it just worked.
