Juniper’s IPG in 2010: A Year in Review

Before we get ready to head into the New Year, l want to take a moment to reflect on what a busy and exciting year 2010 was for Juniper, our Infrastructure Products Group (IPG), and for our customers around the world.

We kicked the year off by announcing our strategic partnership with Polycom in January, which combined our high-performance network expertise with Polycom’s online video capabilities. Then in February, we made a number of significant announcements at Mobile World Congress highlighting our Project Falcon, an innovative framework designed to transform the experience and economics of mobility services with a seamless transition from 3G to 4G, and new industry benchmarks for mobile security. We also announced a number of key mobility partnerships and alliances, including with IBM and Nokia Siemens Networks. An important win and validation point for Juniper came in July when AT&T selected Juniper Networks as a Domain Supplier for the IP/MPLS/Ethernet/Evolved Packet Core domain.

Juniper also made several advancements in the 100G Ethernet space in 2010. In November, we launched our next generation T4000 Core Router. With 240 Gbps per slot capacity, it’s the industry's fastest IP/MPLS router built and optimized for transport networks, the service provider backbone and major peering points around the world. During Supercomputing 2010, Juniper demonstrated a standards-based 100GE core-to-edge network, powered by the T4000 and the MX3D Series Universal Edge Router, which has received tremendous marketplace traction since its introduction in 2009, including a Leading Lights award for best new product. Juniper T Series Core Routers were also deployed this year for the industry’s first 100GE networks by Verizon and Internet2.

In other big news, Daniel Hua joined Juniper as senior vice president and general manager for our Core Business Unit (CBU) within IPG. Daniel was previously executive vice president for the Carrier Product Group in China for Alcatel Lucent, as well as vice president of Alcatel’s IP Division in Asia Pacific. Daniel is an incredible asset to the Juniper team.

With strategic acquisitions in 2010, including Trapeze, Ankeena, SMobile and Altor, Juniper also moved aggressively to invest in our core businesses to extend, enhance  and broaden our existing technology portfolio with new content delivery, mobile and virtualized security and campus wireless connectivity solutions.

Needless to say, we’re excited about the opportunities ahead of us in the New Year!

IPG should also give stress on ensuring  hardware/spares support for it's product line in Asia-Pacific markets.  Customers need to feel confident on new products which will have a good support matrix after deployment.
