What’s more, you’ll have a chance to win one of five book packs with a copy of Junos Enterprise Switching and Junos Enterprise Routing (details below). Just be sure you’re a registered member of J-Net to participate and be eligible for the drawing.

Jewels: As a thank you for attending, we are giving away five (5) Juniper Book packs that include a Junos Enterprise Routing and Junos Enterprise Switching book. Here's what you need to do to enter the drawing: 1. If you haven't joined J-Net, register for a free user account. 2. To be eligible for the book packs, email the following information to j-net@juniper.net by 5:00 PM/Pacific time the day of the live chat * Your J-Net username * Your full name and mailing address * The answer to the question we ask during the live chat
ac: We are here today with Jan LaTourette and Lawrence Rust today to answer your training and certification questions.
ac: If you are logged in as a guest, please make sure you sign into J-Net first if you'd like to ask our host a question
Jewels: This question came in from email. Can you provide any insight into the much-discussed and much-anticipated JNCIE-Sec certification?
Era: Hi! My Name Is Alexey and I'm from Russia. Do I right understand that I can pass examse from Juniper at any Prometric Test Center?
JanLaTourette: To Era Yes, you may take all our written certification exams at any Prometric Testing Center worldwide.
Era: Great, Thanks for Replay
ac: Welcome to those who just joined us. Please feel free to send in your training and certification questions at anytime. Our experts are standing by
JanLaTourette: I'm answering the question from Jewels that came in from email. Yes, the certification team is expanding our -SEC exams. Towards the end of the year in 2010 and in the beginning of 2011, you will see a JNCIP-SEC written exam and a JNCIE-SEC lab exam.
ac: Thank you for sending in your questions. Our experts are working on your questions in the order received.
fracjackmac: Is there a program to obtain lab gear at a reduced price for our studies?
JanLaTourette: To fracjackmac We have no plans at this time. However, in the future we may offer virtual lab time. Some of our training partners offer virtual lab time at a small fee.
Lawrence_R: Another informal channel for gear is to check ebay. There is a surprising amout of Junper gear that comes up for sale. Take a look.
jtb: Any significant changes in the new exam versions for JNCIS-M (JN0-303 vs JN0-304) and JNCIA-M (JN0-201 vs JN0-202) ?
JanLaTourette: To jtb Basically it was just a refresh/update. There are no significant changes, just standard maintenance.
fracjackmac: Thanks for both responses. Please keep us posted on the potential virtual lab time.
ac: Thank you everyone for sending in your questions. For those who just joined us as guests, please make sure you log into J-Net if you'd like to ask a question.
rj45: Will be access for Remote Labs in this year for free (like last year) ?
JanLaTourette: This is still being negotiated, we'll send out an announcement when all is decided.
rj45: OK, thank you for your answer.
muttbarker: i run "pro services" for a juniper elite partner. For our JNSS certs we have to have the same engineer take all four (security) tests for it to count - why could this not be cumulative - total passed tests across multiple engineers - firewall is not the same as ssl
Lawrence_R: To muttbarker We've got technical certification folks on the chat today so we're not the experts on sales certifications but we can get back to you after we connect with the right folks. Stay tuned.
muttbarker: thanks -
Jewels: Another question sent through email. With the new exam for JNCIS-M (JN0-304). Is the JNCIS-M Study Guide still good? Are there new topics not covered by the study guide?
JanLaTourette: The existing study guides are all still good!
ac: Welcome to those who just joined us. Please feel free to send in your training and certification questions at anytime. Please log into J-Net first if you are logged in as guest.
Miles: Could you re-post the instructions for the raffle of the enterprise and switch books?
ac: To Miles Here's what you need to do to enter the drawing: 1. If you haven't joined J-Net, register for a free user account. 2. To be eligible for the book packs, email the following information to j-net@juniper.net by 5:00 PM/Pacific time the day of the live chat * Your J-Net username * Your full name and mailing address * The answer to the question we ask during the live chat (we will announce this question towards end of the event)
muttbarker: i joined late so sorry if this is a repeat - are there any plans for an advanced switching course? jncis type cert -
JanLaTourette: To muttbarker Are you referring to MX or EX?
ac: Welcome to those who just joined us. Please feel free to send in your training and certification questions at anytime. Please log into J-Net first if you are logged in as guest.
muttbarker: it was a general switching question - but yes, I would think that an advanced cert would include mx
JanLaTourette: To muttbarker EX will be late Q4 or Q1 timeframe for the advanced course. No MX advanced switching course planned, but there'll be an advanced service provider routing course coming that's based on the MX
muttbarker: thanks!
JanLaTourette: Regarding the JNSS question. Here is the response from the program manager: The SE is correct. An Elite partner must have 2 individuals pass all four security tests for it to count towards becoming an Elite partner at JNSS-AS level.
muttbarker: jan - yes I know - i just disagree :smileyhappy:
JanLaTourette: To muttbarker Well, would you like me to put you in touch with the Program manager?
muttbarker: sure - if you could send me their email I will argue my case to them -
lebastos: What is the next date to take the JNIPE exam?
JanLaTourette: To lebastos Are you in EMEA, APAC or Americas?
fracjackmac: Is there a recommended learning track? Enterprise Routing, then Switching, then Firewall/VPN?
JanLaTourette: To fracjackmac Do you have all this equipment? Or is this a general question?
JanLaTourette: You're welcome!
Jewels: Another question from email. Would like to check JNCIE-ER lab, up to year 2010, which device is used, is it J-series? Then which software version? JUNOS software (legacy services)" refers to the JUNOS packet-mode software. OR JUNOS flow-mode software known as "JUNOS Software with Enhanced Services" is now referred to as "JUNOS software for J-series Services Routers".
JanLaTourette: In answering the question from Jewels. The exam uses Junos 8.0 R2.8 which is legacy style services. The devices are J-Series 4350 routers.
ac: OK everyone, here comes the question and answer you need to mention for the drawing:
ac: Question: With the new exam for JNCIS-M (JN0-304). Is the JNCIS-M Study Guide still good? Are there new topics not covered by the study guide? Answer:The existing study guides are all still good!
ac: Here's what you need to do to enter the drawing: 1. If you haven't joined J-Net, register for a free user account. 2. To be eligible for the book packs, email the following information to j-net@juniper.net by 5:00 PM/Pacific time the day of the live chat * Your J-Net username * Your full name and mailing address * The secret question and answer below: Question: With the new exam for JNCIS-M (JN0-304). Is the JNCIS-M Study Guide still good? Are there new topics not covered by the study guide? Answer:The existing study guides are all still good!
ac: Thank you everyone for attending, we will now conclude the chat. We will post the transcript of this chat in the training board in 24 hours
ac: once again here're the rules for the book drawing
Lawrence_R: Thanks all!

fracjackmac: Thanks!
JanLaTourette: Thnaks for all of you for participating!
fracjackmac: General question
JanLaTourette: To fracjackmac What's your general question?
fracjackmac: Is there a recommended learning track -- Enterprise Routing, Switching, Firewall/VPN? or JNCIA-ER, JNCIA-ES, etc.?
JanLaTourette: To fracjackmac Which products do you have?
fracjackmac: I actually don't have any of these, but would like to ensure I have the knowledge in case of a job opening...
JanLaTourette: To fracjackmac I would start with the JNCIA-Junos exam - this will be the pre-requisite exam for all Junos exams going forward. Coming out in September is a new JNCIS-ENT exam that covers both Routing and Switching - that would be your next step.
ac: Thank you again everyone, please feel free to go into the training and certification board to continue the conversation. We will now close the chat, see you next time.
mntmprble: hope I can find the transcript posted somewhere here, I joined the chat at a later time
ac: To mntmprble Yes, it will be posted in the training and cert board in 24 hours
mntmprble: ok, thanks
fracjackmac: Thanks. I currently have the JNCIA-ER cert and was wondering if I should move towards JNCIS for routing or JNCIA for switching

Re: May 26, 2010 - Live Text Chat with the Juniper Training and Certification Team

Hi Glen,

Hope you were able to attend the live chat. We posted the URL in the J-Net news area as well as on the front page of J-Net, but both the program manager and I forgot to update this thread. Sorry about that. You can always access the chat just by going to the live chat category on the font page and click on the chat links. I've just posted the transcript. Please feel free to continue the conversation here if you have any additional questions. Our training and certification team members regularly scan this board and answer questions for our community members.

Re: May 26, 2010 - Live Text Chat with the Juniper Training and Certification Team

Hi AC... I think we all missed it... The announcement didn't pop in my FB screen either.. Number of participants also seem less here.... There are several question I believe would have been missed....

There was no mention about...

1. JNCIE-Security --> Is there any update on the topics that it might cover

2. JNCIE-ERS(enterprise routing and switching) --> Are we going to have such a track?? When is this going to change?

3. JNCIE-M --> Is this going to change to JNCIE-SP and include MX??? What happens if we already have the JNCIE-M does my cert get discontinued???

Re: May 26, 2010 - Live Text Chat with the Juniper Training and Certification Team

I was planning to attend, but must have missed it. I signed in about 70 minutes after the start time and was not able to join. I would be really curious to know:
- how existing JNCIE(-M and -ER) programs and certified individuals will be affected
- if a JNCIP tier will be introduced to the ER track to normalize the 3 different certification tracks
- what topics, if any, other than the SRX will be covered by the JNCIE-SEC cert
