With the growing interest in white box switching, Juniper Networks has embraced this innovative and disruptive trend brought on by larger cloud providers to offer an open, fully-supported, and cost-optimized disaggregated switching platform, OCX1100. Juniper’s new switch announced earlier this month is the industry’s first switch to combine Open Compute Project (OCP) hardware design with a carrier-class network operating system, Junos. OCX1100 offers large cloud providers the economies of an open hardware design while providing a level of support and reliability not typically available with other white box solutions.
In October, Juniper Network traveled to Swissôtel Düsseldorf, Germany to attend the third annual Layer 123 SDN & OpenFlow World Congress and of course celebrate Oktoberfest with peers. While we were several days shy from the largest Oktoberfest festival in Munich, we continued the festivities by toasting to making SDN a reality for carriers, data centers and enterprises worldwide. The event attracted 1,300 SDN and NFV industry leaders to examine the developments through exhibitor demonstrations, real world use cases, and breakout sessions. Juniper’s Steve Shaw, product marketing director for NFV/SDN solutions participated in a panel session entitled, “SDN & NFV: Iterative software development or silicon, which is best?”
