"I consider every customer connection very important because I learn from them too, so it's a win-win situation."
The Community Spotlight is on Dexter Cole, also known as @LilDexx. He joined J-Net in January of 2019 and is seen frequently on the accepted solutions and kudos leaderboards.
Dexter’s foray into networking began with studying Industrial Engineering at University. One of his classmates mentioned that he had another plan and would study Networking (CCNA) instead. He said that it would open many doors and offer better employment opportunities in a shorter timeframe. After that conversation, Dexter was very keen on networking to the point that he decided to follow him. But unfortunately, due to a financial set back he had to freeze his studies and began working in a call center as a debt collector.
After working as a debt collector for three years he decided to get back to his networking studies and was hired at IBM as an IT help desk representative. He worked there for one year while studying for his CCNA certification and once he received it, he applied to Juniper and as luck would have it, he was hired!
Dexter started his role at Juniper in the Enterprise Switching team and during his first six months was promoted to a Senior L1 engineer while he was earning his JNCIP-ENT. Then a little over a year later he was promoted to a L2 Networking engineer position and at that time held three JNCIP certifications. Just over a year later he progressed to a L3 Networking engineer position (ATAC) and went on to achieve his JNCIE-ENT certification. He has been working in the ATAC engineering role for a little over year, totaling his time at Juniper just over four years. He has progressed nicely in his career, don’t you think?
A typical day for Dexter consists of troubleshooting and solving customer's network problems via email or phone calls doing remote sessions, working closely with the engineering team doing lab replications, and reporting software bugs and testing their fixes.
We asked Dexter what he enjoys most about participating in the community. He feels that his love for helping people is why he participates and wants to give back because he was helped by so many people when he began his career. He is also very social and enjoys making customer connections. He considers every connection very important because he learns from them too, so it is a win-win situation.
Dexter is a proud “Siquirreño” from the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica and moved to Heredia ten years ago. He loves to travel, languages, watch and play video games, sports, making music, and spending time with his family and friends doing fun things.
A warm thank you to Dexter for sharing his knowledge and helping our customers in and outside of the community!
