Introducing QFX5110, Network Director v3.0 and Professional Services Jumpstarts for Contrail!

Today enterprise data centers face huge pressure to provide increased bandwidth for Digital Transformation, Big Data and IoT applications. The increasing adoption of virtualized workloads (VMs and containers) and ongoing transition from on prem to off prem cloud services has resulted in significant strain on the spine-leaf architectures. The higher bandwidth at the access layer (10/40 GbE) has driven the need for greater upstream bandwidth (100GbE).

 

To account for this need, Juniper is launching QFX5110 switch – the latest addition to the QFX5100 family of switches that provides 100GbE uplink access to the aggregation layer along with features designed to optimize today’s agile data centers. Based on Broadcom’s Trident 2+ chipset, the QFX5110 will be available in two form factors:

 

  • QFX5110-48S: Compact, 1U 10GbE/100GbE data center access switch with 48 small form-factor pluggable plus (SFP+) transceiver ports and 4 QSFP28 ports, which can be configured as 4x40GbE or 4x100GbE ports.

 

  • QFX5110-32Q: Compact, 1U 40GbE/100GbE data center access and aggregation switch offering up to 32 QSFP+ ports, or 20 QSFP+ ports and 4 QSFP28 ports.

Apart from offering 100GbE uplinks, QFX5110 also offers the following benefits:

  • High-density configurations: QFX5110-48S supports up to 64 10GbE ports, while the QFX5110-32Q supports up to 104.
  • PTP support: QFX5110 is capable of supporting Precision Time Protocol (PTP), making it ideal for financial services applications with regulatory timing requirements.
  • Multi-speed ports: QFX5110 supports 10/40/100GbE access and aggregation speeds with uniform QSFP28 uplink ports.
  • Superior Scale: QFX5110 offers improved scale for VRF, MPLS labels, ACLs and port buffers.

Wrt second announcement, Juniper is launching a newer version of its network management platform. Today managing networks can be hard work. Earlier networks were small and easy to manage but as enterprises data centers scale to a hybrid cloud model, network management has become a highly stressful activity for network engineers and IT admins. To simplify the management of enterprise networks, Juniper is launching Junos Space Network Director v3.0.

 

ND v3.0 allows users to visualize, analyze, and control the entire enterprise network—data center and campus—through a single pane of glass. In the data center, Network Director helps your IT staff manage and synchronize both physical and virtual environments, ensuring that network policies follow workloads as they move from server to server or from VM to VM. In the campus, Network Director automates routine management tasks such as network provisioning and troubleshooting, dramatically improving operational efficiency and reliability.

 

New features available with Network Director v3.0 are:

  • Junos Fusion Enterprise support, which lets network administrators remotely enable Junos Fusion fabrics.
  • Auto profile templates, which support plug-and-play operations by detecting the end-point device types and provisioning all port-related parameters.
  • Easy Configuration portal for day-to-day operations, which frees users from the traditional process-intensive model—network administrators no longer need to create separate profiles for VLAN/PoE configurations.
  • Automated creation and management of overlay fabrics on top of underlay networks utilizing an EVPN control plane and VXLAN -based overlay topology through a simple workflow.

           Workflow operation includes:

    • Defining tenants and mapping of tenants to VRFs and VxLAN
    • Defining tenant segments and mapping of segments to VLANs and VxLAN association
    • Multihoming server settings
    • Association of gateways for tenants

With the introduction of NDv3.0, we intend to bring ease of operations back in the enterprise data centers.

 

Finally, on the Professional Services front Juniper is announcing the Jumpstart service for Contrail that covers:

  • Contrail Cloud Platform: Instantiation of a Contrail Cloud Platform, based on Contrail Cloud Reference Architecture (CCRA)
  • Contrail Networking: Instantiation of Contrail Networking, based on customer deployed approved OpenStack

Juniper’s JumpStart service is designed to relieve the initial implementation and configuration burden on customers operations and engineering teams. Professional Services JumpStart delivery methodology covers Installation, Knowledge Transfer and Post Installation Support activities.

Can you please confirm, how to configure the 100G port on 32Q.

 

I have installed the SFP but cannot see the port in terse. Do I have to do anything specific for the port to be visible ?
