DHCP Port-Fowarder and WOL

‎04-07-2009 06:37 PM

Hi,

We are moving from one single VLAN to seperate user (6) and server (2) VLANS. In our testing so far we have discovered that Wake On LAN does not work across VLANS, We have our core stack (switch/routing) configured as a DHCP Relay (working fine) using the following configuration:

show configuration forwarding-options
helpers {
    bootp {
        description "DHCP Server";
        server 172.24.10.10;
        interface {
            vlan.30;
            vlan.40;
            vlan.50;
            vlan.60;
            vlan.70;
            vlan.80;

We are planning an upgrade to 9.4r2 to allow us to use the "set interfaces vlan.x family inet targeted-broadcast" command so that WOL will function across the core stack. However we are concerned that by enabling targeted-broadcasts (IP Directed Broadcasts) we will break the DHCP forwarder.

Can anyone advise what will happen if we have both the DHCP Relay and Targeted Boardcasts option set on the core stack.

Thanks

Paul McLean

I see no answer to this, and it's likely been resolved at this point, but for sake of helping others, this should not impact your DHCP setup at all.  We're running this scenario without issue.
