    Hi Guys,

How can I disable or deactivate virtual chassis on EX4200 switch? I have defaulted the switch using the LCD screen but still no success.

    Thanks,

    Mark

First delete all config under "edit virtual-chassis", but to remove all evidence of vc on it you need to go into the shell:

    Start shell

    Delete all files under /config/vchassis

    rm *.*

Remove or disable the vcp cable and reboot to purge.

    Cli request system reboot.

Also I believe you need to disconnect all of the backplane connections, I think it will auto rebuild a new VC config as long as it is connected to other switches via the backplane.

Thanks this thread has helped me remove a switch form the VC, Sadly in learning how to disable and remove the VC I have decided to redesign my office uses VCs to reduce device maintanance - LOL

    Hi,

even deleting every VC related configuration would not help because no manual config is needed for the unprovisioned VC mode. To stop VC functionality, you have to disable all VC related ports:

    > request virtual-chassis vc-port set interface vcp-0 disable
    > request virtual-chassis vc-port set interface vcp-1 disable

If your switch has not been VC node 0, your interfaces remain to be labled ge-x/... with x > 0. You should renumber the unit to 0 with:

    > request virtual-chassis renumber member-id 1 new-member-id 0

Replace 1 with any number needed if your switch was node 2, ..., 10.

    Regards,

    Dominik

    HI Dominik,

Thanks for your advise. Previously i need to disconnect VC then make factory default back to delete the VC. So I will try your method. So using your method we don't need to restart that Switch right?

No, it works immediatly after you disable the last VC port in use.
