  • 1.  Does EX Switch support G8032v2 ?

    Posted 06-24-2020 02:34

    Hi All,

Based on https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/concept/interfaces-ethernet-ring-protection-switching-overview.html , MX and ACX series supports G8032v2.

But how about EX switch ? Does EX switch support G8032v2 to support multipe rings ?

    Regards,

    Hello Septo_Dw,

EPRS/G.8032 version 1 - All devices with Ethernet ring protection switching support G.8032v1.

EX series switch supports version 1.

EPRS/G.8032 version 2 - MX and ACX devices routers support v2.

Regarding EX switches, as already told by Fighter- It depends on the Switch you are using. EX4300-48MP and EX4650 support this feature, EX4600 does not support this. EX2300 and EX3400 support only G8032v1.

You can check the features for every EX Switch here:

    https://apps.juniper.net/feature-explorer/select-platform.html?category=Switching&typ=1

Additionally, you can tell me what device you are planning to use the feature and we can tell you if it is supported or not?

    Hi F1ght3r,

    Thanks for your answer.

    Hi Shlinga,

Our customer needs EX switch to support G8032v2 feature.

I have seen the feature explorer for EX4300-MP and EX4650, but it doesn't explicitly tell that the switches support G8032v2 feature. Would you like to give me other documentation about the feature ?

    Thanks.

There is not a clear documentation which devices support which version, and the public Juniper documentation contradict each other some times. For example:

All devices with Ethernet ring protection switching support G.8032v1. MX Series and ACX Series routers also support G.8032v2:

    https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/concept/interfaces-ethernet-ring-protection-switching-overview.html

Different G8032v2 features are not supported on EX2300 and EX3400 only (this would mean this is supported on all other EX Switch types, like EX4300-48MP):

    https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/concept/interfaces-understanding-ethernet-ring-protection-switching-functionality.html

To be very sure which EX Switch type supports G8032v2, the best way would be to open a JTAC case if you have a contract, or ask your Juniper representative for this. Or maybe some Juniper employee who reads this post can have a look to the internal database for this feature.

    Hi Septo_DW,

    Greetings,

As per my understanding you want to make sure if G8032v2 is supported for EX 4300-MP and EX 4650.

I think the G8032v2 is not supported for these platforms, the reason being G.8032v1 supports a single ring topology and G.8032v2 supports multiple rings and ladder topology and if you check the below link :
Ethernet Ring Protocol (ERP) support for multiple ring instances on the same physical ring

It doesn't list the EX 4300-MP and EX 4650 under the ERP support for multiple ring instances on the same physical ring.

So, I think G8032v2 is not supported for EX 4300-MP and EX 4650.

Hope this answers your query. Smiley Happy

    Hi Septo_DW

    Greetings,

I believe G8032v2 is not supported on the EX series switches

As per this documentation : Using G.8032 Ethernet Stitching released on Feb 2017 (which is quite old for now) .

By default, version 2 is enabled on the following Junos OS Releases for the following platforms:

    • Junos OS Release 14.2 R1 and later, on the MX Series routers
    • Junos OS Release 15.1X54-D20 and later, on ACX5000 routers
    • Junos OS Release 17.2R1 and later, on ACX Series routers

Again, if someone can point to latest documentation for G8032v2 support on EX series switches, maybe some expert could help us find the right documentation which explains this.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello Septo_DW,

depends on the Switch. EX4300-48MP and EX4650 support it, EX4600 do not support this. EX2300 and EX3400 support only G8032v1.
