Switching

Hi!

Looking for some pointers, I'm trying to connect a small dumb switch to the OOB mgmt port of the ex3300.

I have the switch configured with a static ip for mgmt, when I connect a client to the dumb switch (using a static ip in the same subnet), I can't reach the static ip of the mgmt interface. The vme port is displayed as "Oper status down".

Connecting directly without the dumbswitch works obviously.

Is this not possible to set up? If it is, what sort of configuration is needed.

Hello Josha,

The VME port is only used if you have a Virtual-Chassis, meaning a stack with multiple EX3300 members.

If you have a standalone device you should use the me.0 port, em0.0 on newer devices.

the vme.0 interface should be only used when having VC.

try renaming the interface to me and check the "show interfaces terse"

Well spotted, Thanks! I am however running Virtual Chassis of two Ex3300 switches.

Perhaps I should try and reconfigure the interface.

This is my config:

me0 { unit 0 {
family inet {
address 10.0.3.8/24;

}

I guess I should try and change that to vme.0 ?

Yes, definitely, change the me0 to vme and the vme should come up.

After changing to vme, like you said the interface came up and was accessible using the dumb switch.

well, i just saw that you posted that a direct link to the management port makes it to come up, if that is the case I would say that the dumb switch is not bringing the port up, maybe something in the dumb-switch configuration.
