hi all, I have issue when powerd up EX4200, poe is configured on all ports but seems that opeational status is off, this is config:

any idesa why operational status is off? hoiw can I convert port to supply 24V instead 51.6V? 51.6V might be to high for APs

• If the operational status shows OFF, flap the interface and check the status if the device is consuming the power or not.

• Check for power consumption history for that particular POE interface

Greetings!

I see all the POE interfaces are in the disabled or OFF state. 

Few queries:

1. Is the switch a full PoE model or a partial PoE model?
2. Is the cable properly seated in the port socket?
3. Has the PoE power budget been exceeded for the switch?
4. Does the powered device require more power than is available on the interface?

If the telemetries option has been enabled for the interface, check the history of power consumption.

show poe telemetries interface all count 2

Provide the below output:

>show version

Regarding the voltage change:

The Voltage field describes the Maximum voltage provided by the specified interface at the time the data was gathered. 

As per my understanding, we cannot change this via CLI as this is gathered by the switch at that specific time when the command is issued.

@Cas - #1 is this an EX4200-P or PX switch.  This makes a BIG difference.  P model can only supply a max of 15.4W per interface (AF-Mode/POE), while PX model can provide upto 30W (AT-Mode/POE+).

I believe what you are seeing, outside of telmentry, is expected behavior.  You have set POE disabled on 5 interfaces, so those interfaces correctly show a POE Admin Status of Disabled, which then causes Operational Status to also be Disabled.

All the other interfaces have POE Admin Enabled, and POE Operational Status of off, as it appears no POE device is connected to any of the interfaces, so Operational POE shows off, which is also expected.

As for all showing MAX power of 15.4 watts, this is because you have set Class Management to Static and AF-Mode.  AF-mode provides for a MAX of 15.4 watts.  If this unit is a P model, this is VERY expected.

I have no idea why telmentry shows 51.6V, but I suspect this is expected as well.  POE is not measured with Volts, but with watts/power.

Usually power over Ethernet is injected onto the cable at a voltage between 44 and 57 volts DC. For the device you are using it seems that the value 51.6V is the output voltage and the value that shows up there is showing a fixed value for the port which I suppose this cannot be changed. Again as my collegaues in above comments mentioned, POE is not measured with Volts, but with watts/power.

@vishaalv if this is measured in watts, if I change default 15.4W to 7W, will output show lower valtage and will adjust valtage to the device which will connect? I am only worry that it might damage device which will have lower valtage.

@rccpgm , thx, but when I connected device to ge-0/0/5, it also showed the same status. And until device is powered, interface line will not come up.

The issue is that your 24V PoE device is not 802.1af/at PoE but instead passive PoE.

24V = passive PoE and is simply on or off.

48V = 802.3af (15W PoE) and at (25W PoE+) and uses negotiation.

You need to use the 24V PoE injector that came with your device--the switch cannot power it.

(edited to fix 802.1af should be 802.3af)

@smicker's responses are usually very good, but I believe this case this response is not accurate at all.

#1 response required from @Cas is if this device is a really old EX4200-P or just an older EX4200-PX.

@Cas get output of show chassis hardware and show chassis hardware model, please.

@smicker, hm, that is interasting, so if device has 24V and connect to EX4200 switch, juniper switch will not automatically adjust it to 24V and will put PoE operational status in off mode? So solution is to use 24V adapter? Does it look similar to this? 

That looks more like something to extend 24V power and ethernet to a device that doesn't support any kind of PoE. What I'm referring to is something like this;

Thanks, this confirms that your device is a non-802.3 poe 24V device and requires the passive poe injector that should come with the antenna.

@smicker looks like You are right, client confirmed that he used additional PoE panel as adapter but he was hoping to not use that after migrating from microtic to juniper. Schame he did not mentioned that before so it would save some time ;/
