Hi HDawood,

Greetings,

The error logs indicate that the mgd process is not responding and hence the issue.

Step 1) Try to kill the mgd process and check if the issue resolves.

root@lab> show system processes extensive | match mgd >>> find the process id i.e pid of mgd process and try to kill it.

root@lab> start shell user root

root:RE:% kill -9 PID >> Enter the process id of mgd instead of PID

Example:

root@lab> show system processes extensive | match mgd
1586 root 40 0 51136K 26480K select 0:02 0.00% mgd

root@lab> start shell user root

root:RE:% kill -9 1586

Since the reboot did not fix this issue as you mentioned, I would advise you to try Step (2) :

Step 2) Format install the EX 3300 using USB as the issue might also be due to file system corruption causing the mgd daemon to not respond.

Let us know the results. Hope this helps. 😀

Getting on to the JTAC recommended version of Junos is also a good idea

That's 12.3R12-S15 for the EX3300

If you want to try the format install as suggested you can take a look to this KB:

https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB20643&actp=METADATA

It explains the procedure step by step.

Hi Dawood,

Greetings !!

The "Format Install" should be the last recovery method to restore the switch, as this will erase all files, including the configuration files, by formatting the file system.  Best backup procedures should be in place to recovery any possible file loss.

https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB20643&actp=METADATA

This Kb will explain all the steps regarding Format install

If this solves your problem, please mark this post as "Accepted Solution" so we can help others too

Kudos are also appreciated

Hello HDawood,

What version of junos did you load into the USB?  Could you please share some details about that ?

Doesn't look like a hardware issue as the device is powering and we are facing issue only wrt executing commands - something related to software.

Regards.

Hello HDawood,

Does the device work properly in general after the upgrade?

Only console is not working and shows mentioned error message?

Thanks,

Deimos.

Hi HDawood,

Does it take input at this prompt, or is it just struck there ?

Try the below steps from the KB if it takes input and let us know the results:

[Upgrade EX switch] – Troubleshoot upgrade failure/crash – System stuck on Boot-up

https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB20464&actp=METADATA#loader

If it is struck and not taking any inputs, try rebooting again.

If that also doesn't help then it might be a hardware failure as you predicted earlier and RMA is the only solution.

Hope this helps. !
