Hello Simon,

EX2200-C is already a quite old platform and EOL announced. Please install the latest available JUNOS release 12.3R12-S16 and check again if you see the same behavior.

Can you check the local logs on the ex2200 for the same time period to see why the login is rejected.

This should give you a list of the local files available with a time stamp of the last log in the file.

show log messages?

Then view the file for the time range in question and find the reason for the rejection.

Simon,

I would also suggest you to check /var/log/auth.log on the rancid server at the time of failure.

Let us know.

Hello Simon:

If the switch has been up for a extended period of time, I would suggest to reboot to clear any possible file system corruption. Also can you please indicate what Junos version is installed (this could be also caused by a bug) and if there are any recent core-dumps geneated.

Regards

Do you have a firewall filter applied to lo0?

Could it be rate-limiting logons or other exception traffic?
