Extending L2-domain over L3 in QFX5100

‎09-20-2018 12:28 PM

Was not sure if this question should go in this category or in ip-routing, but this felt more accurate.

I was wondering how to (or if it's even possible to) extend a L2-domain (vlan) over L3 like this:

[(group of interfaces in vlan10) PE1] ----L3 (ospf/ldp/mpls)---[Core]---L3 (ospf/ldp/mpls)----[PE2 (group of interfaces in vlan10)]

I believe a simple l2circut (EoMPLS) and a loopcable would work, but i would prefer to not go that way if it's possible.

I noticed the QFX5100 (14.1xX53-D47.3) was missing the instance-type vpls, does the qfx5100 support vpls on newer software?

Kind Regards

I would go for EVPN-VXLAN for this solution - but I would suggest an upgrade to 17.3R3 before looking into this option as I don't see it as mature feature in the 14.1X53 release.

Please note: Both the l2circuit and EVPN approach will require the QFX-JSL-EDGE-ADV1 present on the device to be compliant. I don't know if this is the case, just wanted to ensure it didn't come as a surprise.

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Too bad there's no way of doing VPLS on the qfx5100, would have been really nice for that price Smiley Happy

EVPN+VXLAN seems like a PITA to configure, i think i will manage with l2circuit for now.

I've got QFX-ADV-FEATURE-LIC installed, so i guess i'm covered.
