MX Virtual Chassis

‎05-09-2019 02:15 AM

Hello everybody,

I have MX480 with dual RE-S-X6-64G-BB routing engine. Also there is another MX480 with dual RE-S-X6-64G-S routing engine. Can they be combined into virtual chassis?

I will say yes, as the -BB and -S suffix just states if the RE has been purchased together with the chassis base bundle or as an spare on a seperate order. The RE hardware is the same.

Hi,

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/concept/virtual-chassis-mx-series-icr-vc-ov...

“Routing Engine Requirements: Each member router in the Virtual Chassis must have dual Routing Engines installed, and all four Routing Engines in the Virtual Chassis must be the same model.

In your case, RE-S-X6-64G being same base hardware, you can combine them in VC.

Thank you for your response. There is another question. What is the difference between routing engine with BB and with S?
