Next hop is waiting to be resolved

‎08-30-2019 07:19 PM

Hi all,

When looking at the mx,srx, qfx and others, there is no any holding routes on pfe table when using the cli of  ">show route forwarding-table | match hold"

But when doing this on ex9200, all the time of executing the cli of ">show route forwarding-table | match hold" shows a lot of routes with different irb interfaces in the output...

When looking at the juniper resources, it says:

.......hold—Next hop is waiting to be resolved into a unicast or multicast type.

If this is seen for irbs, are the irbs up from "show interfaces terse | grep irb"? Else please ensure there's at least one port assigned to corresponding VLAN and check again.

Hope this helps.

Hello,

Do these IP addresses actually exist?

If not then someone is probing Your network and in process of doing it, could wreck some damage

Please check this out

Hi Arix,

Those are ARP requests that has no replies.  Maybe those machines were turned off but there are other hosts that keeps trying to connect to them.  An example could be a printer that was removed from the network but other hosts still trying to use it.

What you need to do is track the destinations and check if the machine is turn on or if it still exists.

That's hell of a lot of printers which went offline recently :-)

My bet would be that these IP are unassigned to actuall hosts.
