QFX to EX lacp not working

‎12-21-2017 02:12 PM

I am trying to connect several EX3300's to a QFX Virtual chassis. 2 links each 1 goes to one member of Virtual chassis then the other to the other member.

Connection works fine. But when I pull 1 traffic stops flowing on the other link as well. This isn't the behaviour I expected.

I have them configured as follows:

QFX:

set interfaces xe-0/0/1 ether-options 802.3ad ae1

set interfaces xe-1/0/1 ether-options 802.3ad ae1

show configuration interfaces ae1
aggregated-ether-options {
minimum-links 1;
lacp {
active;
periodic fast;
}
}
unit 0 {
family ethernet-switching {
interface-mode trunk;
vlan {
members all;
}
}
}

The EX:

set interfaces xe-0/1/0 ether-options 802.3ad ae0
set interfaces xe-0/1/1 ether-options 802.3ad ae0

description "LAG to 10gig core";
aggregated-ether-options {
minimum-links 1;
lacp {
active;
periodic fast;
}
}
unit 0 {
family ethernet-switching {
port-mode trunk;
vlan {
members all;
}
}
}

I added the minimum links later on thinking that had something to do with it. But it is supposed to default to that I believe.

Anyone see what I'm missing?

Hi Folks,

Minimum link has nothing to do as such…

Can you keep one end as active and the other end as passive and check the behavior?

[i.e] step 1: qfx end active and ex end passive

      step 2: ex end active and qfx end passive

Moreover, can you please share the below outputs,

labroot@R1> show lacp interfaces ae1

Aggregated interface: ae1

    LACP state:       Role   Exp   Def  Dist  Col  Syn  Aggr  Timeout  Activity

      ge-0/0/4       Actor    No    No   Yes  Yes  Yes   Yes     Fast   Passive

      ge-0/0/4     Partner    No    No   Yes  Yes  Yes   Yes     Fast    Active

      ge-0/0/5       Actor    No    No   Yes  Yes  Yes   Yes     Fast   Passive

      ge-0/0/5     Partner    No    No   Yes  Yes  Yes   Yes     Fast    Active

    LACP protocol:        Receive State  Transmit State          Mux State

      ge-0/0/4                  Current   Fast periodic Collecting distributing

      ge-0/0/5                  Current   Fast periodic Collecting distributing

labroot@R1> show lacp statistics interfaces ae1

Aggregated interface: ae1

    LACP Statistics:       LACP Rx     LACP Tx   Unknown Rx   Illegal Rx

      ge-0/0/4                4433        4437            0            0

      ge-0/0/5                4433        4437            0            0

I seem to have the type of luck that I encounter odd uncommon issues. I'm sure there is a logical explanation for the things I encounter but sometimes you just have to shrug it off and move on....

One of the things I did try was making EX side passive. That did not fix the issue in this case.

Oddly enough what I did was unplug the other side and plug it back in. So the pair of QFX there is an A and a B. I was unplugging B and loosing connectivety. I unplugged A and plugged it back in and then I was able to unplug B without loosing connectivety.

So for whatever reason this is now working as it should.....

Yet the mystery will remain unsolved; Good to hear things are working now as expected…
