    I was wondering if a member can be hot-added or replaced on the stack without shutting down the swtiches

    yes it is possible.

     

    On page 17 in the following pdf is described how to do this.

    Hi,

     

    As per the following link you just need to be sure the new switch on factory-default and power off the switch/ connect/ power on
