Setting up Isolated VLANs for Guest Wifi

‎10-02-2017 03:48 PM

Hello,

Newer to JUNOS. Trying to set up an isolated VLAN for a guest WIFI network. the APs have 2 SSIDs installed and the guest network traffic should be going to a tagged VLAN, the other SSID is just corporate lan that does not need any special vlan aside from default. What would be the best method about going about this?

Which Juniper switch and version of Junos are you running?

Typically a WAP will connect to an EX port set to trunk mode.

The native VLAN id will generally be the management network for the WAP

Each SSID then generally has a VLAN tag assigned

You will create these three VLANs on the switch and assign them to the trunk port.  The exact commands will vary depending on the model and version of Junos.

To keep the VLANs separate I would assume you have the default gateway for the VLANs on a firewall which can then control traffic between them.

I much suggested a better approach would be to contact your WLAN vendor and ask them what is best way for network to be set-up to support your specific config/design, and then configure the network as they recommend.

If your WLAN vendor can not do this, then my next suggestion would be to find yourself a different WLAN vendor -;)
