Hi,

Need help upgrading junos 10.0.R2.10 to 11.4R2.14 Ex 3200.  I will  update first the Jloader and after that can I update directly to 11.4R2 or I need to upgrade first to 10.4R3 before going to 11.4R2. Please advice.

You need not have to upgrade Junos to 10.4R3 first. but alwasys, you'd better to get your current configuration backup first.

Hi Alex

So you mean  from 10.0.R2.10 I will update the Jloader and update directly  to Junos 11.4R2 ?

Thank you

Before upgrading to 11.4, you will need to update the jloader firmware.  This is detailed as follows:

"Junos Software Releases: 10.4R3, 11.1R1, and later releases Platforms: EX-series Switches Requirement: New jloader software package is required when upgrading to Junos Software Release 10.4R3 and later. If you are upgrading from Release 10.4R2 or earlier, to 10.4R3 or later, you must download and install a new platform specific jloader firmware package as described in PSN-2011-03-201"

So, technically, whilst you can upgrade from 10.0 to 11.4 without any intermediate steps, you must update the firmware before you attempt the upgrade Junos otherwise you could have problems booting the switch after the upgrade.

Hi,

I understand that I need to update first the Jloader, but what I want to confirm after upgrading the Jloader can I directly  upgrading directly to 11.4 without passing 10.4R3 and It will have no issue?

That's correct, it should be a straightforward upgrade without the need for intermediate steps.

You can do the jloader upgrade and the 10.0 -> 11.4 upgrade at the same time.  Simply load the jloader package, then load the Junos 11.4 package, then reboot.  Both are done at the same time.

Yes, you can go straight from 10.0 to 11.4 without any problem.  Back up the configuraton someplace off of the switch itself before you start just for safety.

Note that crossing the 10.4R3 boundary triggers a repartition of the flash drive.  Meaning if you go from 10.4R2 or earlier to 10.4R3 or later, or vice versa, the flash drive gets repartitioned.  Due to the repartition plan for the switch to be down for 12-15 minutes.
