vQFX 19.4: strange PFE image size

‎04-20-2020 01:17 AM

Hello!

I'm trying to replicate some issues in our network in lab with eve-ng and vQFX. I've downloaded latest vQFX, 19.4R1.10, and I was not able to run it with eve-ng: RE does not see PFE. Looking closely I noticed that it seems that something wrong with size PFE image: it is three times smaller than 18.1R3-S2.
The same issue with 18.4R2-S2.3 vs. 18.4R1.
Screenshots:

Did anyone try to run 19.4 images with eve-ng? Thanks in advance!

Hi Ashm,

Are you getting any particular error (anything related to kernel) or is it the case that RE is not at all detecting PFE?

There are two images: in qcow and qcow2 formats. Aren't they the same?

No, there is no any particular error. But em1 interface on both RE and PFE nodes has the same IP addresses. Thus PFE image looks like RE, it is showed on screenshot

Hi ashm,

Greetings,

Thanks for making me understand with the snapshots. Just did a quick check and I found this :

  • qcow and qcow2 file extensions, respectively. qcow2 is an updated version of the qcow format, intended to supersede it.
  • The main difference with the original is that qcow2 supports multiple virtual machine snapshots through a new, flexible model for storing snapshots.

Please mark "Accept as solution" if this answers your query.

Kudos are appreciated too!

Hi,

Please choose .qcow instead qcow2.

Thanks

Hello!

Thank you for suggestion but it does not work. eve-ng does not recognize qcow format:

If just rename .qcow to .qcow2 then eve-ng sees an image but it is not bootable:

I've tried to convert qcow to qcow2 as well:

root@eve-ng:/opt/unetlab/addons/qemu/vqfxpfe-10K-F-19.4R1.10# qemu-img convert -f qcow -O qcow2 hda.qcow hda.qcow2
qemu-img: Could not open 'hda.qcow': 'source' uses a qcow feature which is not supported by this qemu version: QCOW version 3

My solution:

1. Download the Vagrant PFE Package and save the file as tgz.

2. Extract the archive and you can find vmdk file.

3. Convert the VMDK to qcow2:

qemu-img convert -f vmdk -O qcow2 vqfx-2019010209-pfe-virtualbox-disk001.vmdk hda.qcow2
