Brutal Automation is the Only Way to Succeed
Oct 24, 2017

“Brutal Automation is the only way to succeed.”

This is quite a statement from Arash Ashouriha, Deutsche Telekom AG's deputy chief technology officer at the recent SDN/NFV World Congress in The Hague.

More than ever, network automation has become a priority that many forward-looking service providers and enterprise alike are aggressively pursuing. Even the leading web companies such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook are preemptively transforming existing infrastructure while they still hold a market-leading position, constantly innovating themselves to stay ahead.

Network automation is not an incremental change but a transformative journey that enables service providers and enterprises alike to achieve sustainable improvements in operational efficiency, build competitive advantage, and establish a clear path for future technology evolution. Due to its comprehensive nature and the business pressure to execute quickly, network automation is a complex endeavor, and the risk of failing to realize their full value or implementing new technologies in a timely fashion is high.

Service providers and enterprises can leverage the autonomous journey as a framework toward the Self-Driving NetworkTM. At high level, four stages comprise an end-to-end view of the autonomous journey: Human-driven automation, Event-driven automation, Machine-driven automation, and full autonomy. Each of these stages encompasses a unique set of benchmarks and objectives that stipulate a broad set of transformation and performance improvement goals.

To embark on this transformative journey, service providers and enterprises first need a clear view of their current capabilities; this will help them identify relative strengths and weaknesses and select an automation path that complements existing infrastructure.  A partner with a proven track record in rolling out innovative technology platforms can facilitate transformation more consistently and predictably, make informed technology migration recommendations, and work more effectively and efficiently with the organization as well as with third-party vendors and solution providers.

Juniper Networks has extensive experience helping service providers and enterprises embark on an automation journey, including integration into a multivendor environment, to ensure a smooth transition with minimal or no disruption to existing services and applications. The capabilities available from Juniper Networks includes Automation Workshops, Jumpstart services, and Professional Services with proven Plan, Build, and Operate model.

I would like to invite you to listen the always entertaining PacketPushers podcast featuring Kireeti Kompella to share our thoughts on what it takes  to embark on a transformative journey to the Self-Driving Network.
