DHCP in vLabs

‎03-23-2020 07:28 PM

Hi,

I'm trying to use vLabs to configure DHCP.

I've launched the OSPF topology, and I've configured vMX1 as a DHCP server, and vMX2 as a DHCP client.

however, I can't get DHCP to work. Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

Thanks

vMX1:

set system services dhcp-local-server group TEST-DHCP interface ge-0/0/0.0
set access address-assignment pool dhcpV4 family inet network 10.100.12.0/24
set access address-assignment pool dhcpV4 family inet range 1 low 10.100.12.50
set access address-assignment pool dhcpV4 family inet range 1 high 10.100.12.60
set access address-assignment pool dhcpV4 family inet dhcp-attributes router 10.100.12.1

vMX2:

set interfaces ge-0/0/0 unit 0 family inet dhcp

Hi Luke .

I hope you're doing great.

I checked the configuration and it looks good.

What I cannot see is if the ge-0/0/0 on Vmx1 is family inet or bridge, please make sure you have family inet on that interface.

Another important thing is if you have those devices directly connected if so please try having in between a Switch.

Thanks for your reply.

Definitely using family inet on both vMX routers.

Unfortunately, I can't put a switch in between, as this is Juniper's vLabs, which have a fixed topology. Is this normally a requirement?

Is it possible that this just won't work in vLabs?

Hi Luke.

If a switch is not possible, try configuring a bridge domain vtest vlan-id 100 and its interface IRB under services dhcp-local-server group TEST-DHCP   and the interface ge-0/0/0 as trunk VLAN-id-list 100.

This way it should work.

Unfortunately, I don't think this will work in vLabs.

Thanks for your suggestions.
