IPSLA to RPM interop?

‎03-02-2015 11:45 PM

Hi

I have an MX setup as a probe server.

and a remote PE that run IPSLA operations.

operation 1
  type icmp path-jitter
   tag icmp-path-jitter-1
   source address 172.10.1.1
   destination address 172.10.1.10
  !
 !
 operation 2
  type icmp echo
   tag icmp-echo-2
   source address 172.10.1.1
   destination address 172.10.1.10
  !
 !
operation 6
  type udp echo
   tag udp-echo-1
   source address 172.10.1.1
   destination address 172.10.1.10
   destination port 49200
  !
 !
 operation 7
  type udp jitter
   tag udp-jitter-2
   source address 172.10.1.1
   destination address 172.20.1.10
   destination port 7
  !
 !

the icmp based operations work but the UDP operations fail

#show ipsla statistics 7

Latest operation return code  : NoConnection

my junos syntax is:

set services rpm probe-server udp port 49200

Does anyone know if they are interoperable?

No, IPSLA will not interop with Juniper RPM in this scenario.

With icmp ping you would be able to get the expected responses if the interface is setup to permit ping , but not udp checks.

Thanks for that.

Is that because the tests are not a standard format and are proprietary per vendor?

Or do I need specific hardware in the mx or something else?

The IPSLA tests are proprietary to Cisco and not standards based.
