J4350 or M7i - Ethernet Interface Rate Limiting

‎09-15-2008 05:36 AM

I have 32Mb/s of Internet bandwidth to use at a Sales Conference.  We are setting up a Cayber Cafe for Employees to use.  I need to rate limit the ethernet Interface to 12Mb/s with a bust size limit of 3Mb/s.  Below is how I configured it.  Could anyone tell if this is correct and will work as anticipated?  Thank you.

edit firewall policer Cyber-Cafe
set if-exceeding bandwidth-limit 12m burst-size-limit 3m
set then discard

edit firewall filter Cyber-Cafe
set term Cyber-Cafe-Network from source-address 0.0.0.0/0 destination-address 0.0.0.0/0
set term Cyber-Cafe-Network then policer Cyber-Cafe

edit interfaces ge-0/0/0.0 family inet

set filter input Cyber-Cafe output Cyber-Cafe

Hi,

burst-size-limit represents the number of bytes, not bps (this is what You wanted to configure, didn't You?). Please have a look here, it's well described: http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/software/junos/junos92/swconfig-policy/configuring-rate-limiting.html#id-11036015

BTW, isn't it easier to apply the policer directly (unless You have some other terms in filter, of course):

 edit interfaces ge-0/0/0.0 family inet

 set policer input  Cyber-Cafe

 set policer output   Cyber-Cafe

?

Hope this helped a bit,

Cheers,

G.
