M320: Route Engine upgrade

Hi

I've an M320 with redundant RE and since the RE are going to be in EOS I'm thinking to change them.

The question: is it safe to change the RE in an hot manner ? I mean do I need a window maintenance where the router is stopped or not ?

Tks

Hello,

GRES is not supported when Routing Engines are dissimilar. So when you switch RE mastership during replacement, all PFEs will be reset. Therefore, I would advise to do it during maintetance window.

FYI

chassis {
    redundancy {
        failover {
            on-loss-of-keepalives;
            on-disk-failure;
        }
        graceful-switchover {
            enable;
        }
    }

Jack

I was looking for some details why

"GRES is not supported when Routing Engines are dissimilar. So when you switch RE mastership during replacement, all PFEs will be reset. Therefore, I would advise to do it during maintetance window."

I expect is a statement that comes from some test since I didn't find info about that...
