RADIUS Attribute: Parse Error: "Unsupported attribute type" Radius Standard Attr-Type: 13

‎04-17-2019 06:48 AM

I'm setting up a new pppoe concentrator and I came accross the following log messages.

Apr 17 14:37:24.316 Parsing RADIUS message for session-id:7278

Apr 17 14:37:24.316 radius-access-accept: Framed-Protocol received: 1

Apr 17 14:37:24.317 RADIUS Attribute: Parse Error: "Unsupported attribute type" Radius Standard Attr-Type: 13

Apr 17 14:37:24.317 radius-access-accept: Framed-IP-Address received: 185.52.209.160

Apr 17 14:37:24.317 radius-access-accept: Framed-IP-Netmask received: 255.255.255.255

Apr 17 14:37:24.317 radius-access-accept: Ingress-Policy-Name (Juniper-ERX-VSA) received: police-unlimited

Apr 17 14:37:24.317 radius-access-accept: Egress-Policy-Name (Juniper-ERX-VSA) received: police-unlimited

Attr-Type: 13 = Framed-Compression which is always: Framed-Compression = Van-Jacobson-TCP-IP

On other devices I have no issue termination pppoe sessions.

Why does this happen on this device?

Hi,

MX doesn't support Framed-Compression. Are you seeing subscriber login issue?

Also note 14.2R7 is not recommended for subscriber management.

This attribute has to do with the free radius attribute hint on compression type, this can be ignored and subscriber should be able login despite of this message as it is just a hint to use a compression protocol from free radius.

5.13. Framed-Compression

Description

This Attribute indicates a compression protocol to be used for the
link. It MAY be used in Access-Accept packets. It MAY be used in
an Access-Request packet as a hint to the server that the NAS
would prefer to use that compression, but the server is not
required to honor the hint.

More than one compression protocol Attribute MAY be sent. It is
the responsibility of the NAS to apply the proper compression
protocol to appropriate link traffic

Alright, then I will ignore that message.

The subscriber does login, but then gets removed immediately.

Must be something else then.
