Uploading Junos Images

‎07-14-2014 11:02 AM

Hi Everyone,

Quick question for you, I'm working on uploading a new Junos image to our switches but I'm running into issues with files that are larger than 100mb. I've read that you need to be logged in as root to upload files larger than that size.

I'm using WinSCP and I'm getting access denied when I try to FTP in as root. Am I missing something or is my only option an FTP server and running the commands from the CLI on the switch? I've also tried from J-Web and get connection time outs when I try from there.

I've done this process before on EX2200 switches but the image was less than 100mb.

Thanks!

Mike

If you can scp small files, but not 100+M files, then first thing is to check the storage of the system.

show system storage

Very likely you have disk space problems. You should be able to copy files larger than 100MB using scp with a non-root user.

Check the storage and eventually run 'request system storage cleanup' to delete unneeded files.

{master:0}[edit]
root@EX4200# run show system storage | match /dev/da0s3d
/dev/da0s3d 369M 1.2M 338M 0% /var/tmp

{master:0}[edit]
root@EX4200#

After the file(107 MB) was copied by another user than root:

{master:0}[edit]
root@EX4200# run show system storage | match /dev/da0s3d
/dev/da0s3d 369M 108M 232M 32% /var/tmp

{master:0}[edit]
root@EX4200# ...ar/tmp/jinstall-ex-4200-12.3R7.7-domestic-signed.tgz
-rw-r--r-- 1 lab field 111902504 Jul 15 06:39 /var/tmp/jinstall-ex-4200-12.3R7.7-domestic-signed.tgz
total files: 1

{master:0}[edit]
root@EX4200#
