VRRP Tracking default 0.0.0.0/0 BGP route

‎10-11-2019 03:30 AM

Hello,

I wonder if someone can help. I have x2 Juniper routers on LAN side where Primary is tracking an WAN interface and when that port is down secondary router automatically takes over.

I have noticed when there is network outage that WAN port stays up as link is not broken , as the port stays up failover never kicks in which is obvious as i am tracking a port that remains up. Is there any way I can track default BGP route I am learning from ISP or may be both default route and WAN interface on Priamry router.

Currently my config looks similar to below

Primary

description Customer;
unit 0 {
family inet {
address 10.80.48.44/28 {
vrrp-group 48 {
virtual-address 10.80.48.46;
priority 254;
preempt;
accept-data;
authentication-type md5;
authentication-key "$9$W5gXVs2gJGDkbskP5zCAevMWNdoJGiHqW8"; ## SECRET-DATA
track {
priority-hold-time 3;
interface ge-0/0/15.0 { **WAN port**
priority-cost 100;
}
}
}

Secondary

nit 0 {
family inet {
address 10.80.48.45/28 {
vrrp-group 48 {
virtual-address 10.80.48.46;
priority 200;
preempt;
accept-data;
authentication-type md5;
authentication-key "$9$iqTFn6Ap0IQFIcyeXxGDjiP59ApB1RiH"; ## SECRET-DATA
track {
priority-hold-time 3;
}
}
}
}
}

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

VRRP track can also track routes as per

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/task/configuration/vrrp-route-tracking.html

Thanks AshvinO

i have applied below but when Primary router receives default route back it does not take back Master ownership.

description Customer;
unit 0 {
family inet {
address 10.80.64.44/28 {
vrrp-group 79 {
virtual-address 10.80.64.46;
priority 254;
preempt;
accept-data;
authentication-type md5;
authentication-key "$9$8whxbYg4ZUjqwYqfTFAtKMWxbsUjHmP57N"; ## SECRET-DATA
track {
priority-hold-time 3;
interface ge-0/0/15 {
priority-cost 100;
}
route 0.0.0.0/0 routing-instance default priority-cost 100;
}
}
}
}
}

Hi,

I would suggest looking at below command on both vrrp interfaces/routers and look for the priority:

show vrrp interface <interface>

Please feel free to paste the output here so we can take a look.

I am still having issues with this.

I am injecting default route from BGP into ospf and also exporting all ospf routes back to BGP. Problem with vrrp 0.0.0.0/0 track is when BGP route is gone due to outage - the ospf default from other end still remains up hence vrrp never kicks in.

My question is in juniper is there a concept of tracking default route with next-hop and when that particular route disappears the vrrp failover ?
