routing between vlans

‎06-26-2018 02:20 PM

All,

I am reading the following documentation:

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/reference/configuration-statement/l3-interf...

it mentions the following: Configure Layer 3 interfaces on trunk ports to allow the interface to transfer traffic between VLANs

yet, I have not yet seen any configuration examples that show an irb interface being assigned to a trunk port.

I have created various vlans, created various IRB interfaces and associated the IRB interfaces with the vlans.  but I'm not seeing traffic routing between vlans so I'm wondering if I'm missing the step mentioned above, adding the IRB interface to a trunk port?

It's either IRB or subinterfaces on a trunk.

You can find examples here https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/concept/security-interface-vlan-tagging-con...

What is your topology for the tests?

Ac couple of notes, routing between the RVI assumes you are using them as the default gateway for that subnet configured on the devices.

And not that the RVI will not come link up unless a physical interface on that switch in the same vlan is also up/up.

Hi Folks,

Not sure if you referrrinf to something like this,

set bridge-domains customer1 vlan-id 400 routing-interface irb.400
set interfaces irb unit 400 family inet address <x.y.z.x>
set interfaces <interface> unit <*> family bridge interface-mode trunk
set interfaces <interface> unit <*> family bridge vlan-id 400

-Python JNCIE 3X [SP|DC|ENT] JNCIP-SEC JNCDS 3X [ WAN | DC|SEC] JNCIS-Cloud JNCIS-DevOps CCIP ITIL

To add the other vlan,

set bridge-domains customer2 vlan-id 500 routing-interface irb.500

set interfaces irb unit 500 family inet address <x.y.z.x>

set interfaces <interface> unit <*> family bridge interface-mode trunk

set interfaces <interface> unit <*> family bridge vlan-id 500

Else, you can share your topology and the requirement
