Hi Arix,

          You can install "FileZilla FTP server" on your desktop and use your Desktop as a FPT server. (Please remember to disable Firewalls on your desktop).

         Then use commnads in below link to copy.

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/reference/command-summary/file-copy.html

Hope this helps !!

Hi Arix,

Besides the option of FTP using Filezilla, you can use USB method as well, as if you were to upgrade the device instead of copying the files from the computer to the device it can be done vicecersa, you can take the following link as a guide of mounting the usb,

https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB20551&actp=METADATA

WinSCP program is another option.

thanks for replies...

But there is a factor when using FileZilla.

My desktop----vpn over internet(ISP)-------Paloalto VPN G/W(1.1.1.1)-----EXswitches------destination network (Junos device).

After ssh to junos device, it gives my login username and Ip address of 1.1.1.1 when dosing >sh sytem users.

In this case how the following junos command is going to worked?

> copy file /var/mnt/monitor_int_g.pcap | save ftp://username:password@mydesktopIPaddress/

Another qs is that why this ip address of 1.1.1.1 is assigned to me when doing >sh system users on junos device as my desktop vpn ip address is different from this ip address of 1.1.1.1?

Thx

Hi Arix,

       1.1.1.1 means that its getting NATd.

      If you just want to copy files from a router to which you can ssh ; you dont need to use your machine as a FTP server.

      Copy and install Filezilla client and login to your router from Filezilla client (not server)  and you should be able to copy the files from your router to desktop.

       Before doing this ; please make sure that FTP is enabled on your router.

# set system services ftp

labroot@cambridge> show configuration system services
ftp;      <<<<<<<<<<
ssh {
root-login allow;
}
telnet;
netconf {
ssh;
}

Hope this helps !!

bonjour Arix,

my personnal favorite is to go the other way around: from my windows  computer,

  • I open a DOS windows,
  • ftp to the switch
  • issue get commands to the files I want.
  • if i need to, I also issue put commands to put some files on the switch.
  •
  • don't forget to issue a "binary" command if you try to get  compressed files (varlog) requested by JTAC for troubleshooting or the files will be  of no use. Also make sure ftp  on the switch is system enable. other than that, have fun.
  • when upgrading images, I'll ftp the whole image on the switches  with pre-made bat commands files issued from an Excel files with all the switches ip addresses. and also a couple of .sh file with Junos cli command that I can execute.
