Logical Systems on VMX

‎05-07-2013 09:19 AM

Does anyone know if the VMX on Junosphere actually support logical systems or not?

My topology has a single router as follows:

#include "common.defs"

config "config" {

VMX_LATEST(VMX0, VMX0_internal_only, private_VMX0)
   interface "em2" {bridge "private0"; }; /* ge-0/0/1 */
   interface "em3" {bridge "private1"; }; /* ge-0/0/2 */
   interface "em4" {bridge "private1"; }; /* ge-0/0/3 */
   interface "em5" {bridge "private1"; }; /* ge-0/0/4 */
   interface "em6" {bridge "private1"; }; /* ge-0/0/5 */
   interface "em7" {bridge "private1"; }; /* ge-0/0/6 */
   interface "em8" {bridge "private1"; }; /* ge-0/0/7 */

   install "ENV(HOME)/active/configset/VMX0.conf" "/root/junos.conf";
};

PRIVATE_BRIDGES

};

Thus, all active interfaces are on a single bridge.

On the router itself, I have the following :-

root@VMX0# show logical-systems
R1 {
    interfaces {
        ge-0/0/1 {
            unit 12 {
                vlan-id 12;
                family inet {
                    address 192.168.12.1/24;
                }
            }
        }
    }
}
R2 {
    interfaces {
        ge-0/0/2 {
            unit 12 {
                vlan-id 12;
                family inet {
                    address 192.168.12.2/24;
                }
            }
        }
    }
}

The logical-systems R1 and R2 do not seem to have any connectivity, even ARP resolution will not complete. Am I missing something in the configuration/Junosphere topology or am I simply trying to do something that is impossible?

Thanks,

Nic

But logical systems have to be connected somehow , don't they?

Using logical tunnel interface (see 'show interface terse' if you have 'LT' interface).

Or you should connect two hardware interfaces on the same device, and use that instead, don't now if junosphere will give you that option, because it connects all VMs automatically.

As an example, this sort of config is really more what your after:

logical-systems {
    R1 {
        interfaces {
            lt-0/0/0 {
                unit 11 {
                    encapsulation ethernet;
                    peer-unit 12;
                    family inet {
                        address 10.10.10.1/24;
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }
    R2 {
        interfaces {
            lt-0/0/0 {
                unit 12 {
                    encapsulation ethernet;
                    peer-unit 11;
                    family inet {
                        address 10.10.10.2/24;
                    }
                }
            }
        }
    }
}
chassis {
    fpc 0 {
        pic 0 {
            tunnel-services {
                bandwidth 10g;
            }
        }
    }
}

Yes it support it.

To connect two logical system you must use logical tunnel (lt interface)

[edit logical-systems]
root@vMX# show | display set
set logical-systems R1 interfaces lt-0/0/10 unit 1 encapsulation ethernet
set logical-systems R1 interfaces lt-0/0/10 unit 1 peer-unit 2
set logical-systems R1 interfaces lt-0/0/10 unit 1 family inet address 10.0.0.1/24
set logical-systems R2 interfaces lt-0/0/10 unit 2 encapsulation ethernet
set logical-systems R2 interfaces lt-0/0/10 unit 2 peer-unit 1
set logical-systems R2 interfaces lt-0/0/10 unit 2 family inet address 10.0.0.2/24

Check

root@vMX# run ping logical-system R1 10.0.0.2 source 10.0.0.1 rapid
PING 10.0.0.2 (10.0.0.2): 56 data bytes
!!!!!
--- 10.0.0.2 ping statistics ---
5 packets transmitted, 5 packets received, 0% packet loss
round-trip min/avg/max/stddev = 1.160/2.146/5.645/1.752 ms

Note : I'm using vMX Junos: 17.2R1.13 and AFAIK you can only create Logical Tunnels on lt-0/0/10, other FPC / PIC do NOT support it.

How many logical systems can I create in a vMX. I tried to create 3 but only 2 working.
