Router as NTP time source

‎10-07-2019 04:12 AM

Hi

Is it possible to set a router up as an NTP time source for other routers in a kind of test lab envoiroment ?

Would you use source-address in the config of the router you want a the time source ?

A Juniper router can supply time via NTP _ONLY_ if it is synced to another NTP time source.

If a juniper router is not synced self, it will set stratum 16 in own NTP packets.

I don't see why not. If Your lab routers are interconnected in a full/partual mesh topology and are talking to each other via IGP, You'd probably want to set source-address to be the lo0.0 primary IP address on the router acting as NTP source.

Setting NTP source address makes securing the router easier, the default is that source IP address is set to the outgoing interface' IP for a given NTP packet.

HTH

Thx
