Would like TRAPS sent with actual system hostname and not IP address

‎11-16-2017 08:34 AM

Hi All.... not having much success sending out TRAPs with our switch host names. The hostname comes across as the switch IP address. How can I have the actual system hostname be part of the TRAP?

Here's my SNMP config:

description "LS Core";
location LS-IDF-135;
client-list SNMPList {
10.1.2.0/24;
10.2.12.0/24;
}
community oursnmp {
authorization read-only;
}
community public {
authorization read-only;
client-list-name SNMPList;
}
trap-group SOLARWINDS {
version v2;
categories {
chassis;
vrrp-events;
}
targets {
10.1.2.20;
}
}

Thanks.....Dennis

Can't do that.  Just the IP address.

Hostname (string) isn't a standard part of the trap PDU.   Agent-Address has it's own field, but it's an IP address and not a hostname.

What's keeping you from using an IP address?

Thanks for the reply Doug...

Hmmmmm...I'm looking to get the hostname in the message for easy device identification is all. Of course, it's not the end of the world to just get the IP...but it would be nice.

Solarwinds is actually supposed to try and resolve the source IP of the trap to a name- via HOST file - then DNS...but that is not working either.

Anybody using SW feel free to chime in-- thanks
