Color-aware policers

[ Edited ]

I understand that when policers are applied in color-aware mode, the router cannot change the packet loss priority to lower one. However, what if the following scenario occurs:

1. Upstream router sends a packet with PLP high codepoint (So the policer on the local router cannot change it's PLP to yellow or green)

2. However, at the local router, I enable a classifier which classifies the packet's codepoint as PLP low.

3. So,  in this scenario, will the policer identify the packet as green?

Thanks,

Vinay

Hi Vinay,

What kind of classifiers are you planning to use? I haven't seen such a thing in action but theoretically, it should be possible if it is a BA classifier because the traffic received at the ingress will first process classifier and then the policer.

traffic (ingresses) --> BA Classifier --> Policer --> Multifield Classifier --> next steps

This can be tried out too if you already have a setup.

Do let me know if this works and "accept as a solution" to mark the answer.
