EVPN active / active with IRB

‎06-25-2019 10:37 PM

Good morning eveybody.

I have a short question at the this time.

Can I make  an active / active evpn mpls in my VR?

We want to make a second server-farm feoredundant without vxlan.....

An it is important for us to make this active active.

Have a nice day

Thomas

Yes.

What is "my VR"? If You mean "instance-type virtual-router", then it is poor choice for communicating over MPLS core.

"instance-type virtual-router" does not pass traffic over BGP-free MPLS core without extensive && time-consuming kludging.

"instance-type vrf" is a better choice here.

Thx

Alex

Ok.

I can make an active active EVPN with an irb interface to use the forwarding options helpers....That is fine.

In all my virtuell router I use instance-type vrf.

I do not found in the web an example to configure the evp active active with irb interface.

Do you know a webside or can sen me a link who I can read about it.

Hi Thomas,

Seems to be a complicated topology but has the IRB configuration with Active-Active. Hope this helps.

Hi Thomas

If I'm understanding correctly, you are looking for a multihoming deployment.  I'm not sure how I could insert the image so I attached a simple example

For each PE, you need to have BGP to signal EVPN and MPLS LSP to do the packet forwarding. This is just the same as any L3VPN instance.

I could give you an example of the EVI config:

labroot@weir-re1# show routing-instances EVPN
instance-type virtual-switch;
interface ae7.0;
interface ae8.0;
route-distinguisher 23:84;
vrf-target target:23:84;
protocols {
evpn {
extended-vlan-list 84;
}
}
bridge-domains {
Domain {
domain-type bridge;
vlan-id 84;
bridge-options {
interface ae7.0;
interface ae8.0;
}
}
}

You need to configure ESI for the CE facing interface for active-active

labroot@weir-re1# show interfaces ae7

flexible-vlan-tagging;
encapsulation flexible-ethernet-services;
esi {
00:00:00:00:00:00:02:08:44:01;
all-active;
}
aggregated-ether-options {
lacp {
active;
periodic fast;
system-id 00:00:02:08:44:01;
}
}
unit 0 {
family bridge {
interface-mode trunk;
vlan-id-list 84;
}
}

Hi,

first of all i hope that you understand my bad english.

I have make a pdf file to show you what i mean with my question.

I have a MPLS Backbone with BGP and this works very fine.

For example:

I have a L3-VRF instance over my hole Backbone and I use IRBs to route into my CE networks.

Now i want to integrate EVP active active into this VRF Instance.

You can see this in my PDF file.

Now I have some questions:

1. I think i can not make instance type viortuel switch.

2. I understand ESI and how it is working. I think ESI must be the same in this segment, in an aother segment it must

be different.Must I configure ESI manuell or camn my backbone do that automatic.

I think I can not integrate EVPN in my L3-Main VRF..

Hi Thomas

Here is my understanding of your questions:

1.You could still use instance type virtual-switch as the EVI, but you will need to configure the vrf routing instance and put the irb interface in it for L3 routing.

2.Starting from 18.4R1, you could use LACP auto-drive for automatically configured ESI. You could refer to below link for more details
