FPC card on MX480 chassis rebooting randomly

‎04-09-2019 05:59 AM

Hi All,

We have one line card on MX480 chassis. we have lost all connections twice  through the router  today.

looking at the router physically when it drops services, i notice the while FPC card is off. it comes up after roughly ~2 minutes.

when its back online, all services resume. checking the FCP uptime shows that it rebooted 5 minutes ago.

we have recently upgraded to Junos: 17.3R3-S2.2 from 15.1

we have been having "high RE CPU untilization" since the upgrade. i had a post on this forum about this high CPU untilization and it was mentioed that the routing-engine  RE-S-1300's last supported junos version is 14.2

This is the 2nd "behavior" we noticing since the upgrade, first was high CPU utilization even though on the cli it shows 86% of CPU is idle.

I have attached log messges captured duing the 2 FPC reboots. the reboots are 2 hrs apart.

Hi,

It is better to reach out to JTAC regarding unexpected FPC restarts.

However, you are running unsupported HW/SW configuration.

In this case I would suggest following action plan:

1) Downgrade Junos to latest supported version, e.g. 14.2

2) Monitor FPC for restarts

3) Open JTAC case in case of unexpected FPC restart

Regards,

Roman
