Is it possible on juniper MX/QFX use VXLAN without EVPN and just using OSPF only?

Hi all,

May i know in Juniper MX/QFX whether we can use VXLAN without EVPN and just using OSPF only like Arista or HPE can do. I mean just a small setup of VXLAN as long from DC-A can communicate to DC-B. Is below url can be an example just normal VXLAN. If yes then is compulsary to configure PIM as per url below. Appreciate if someone can give another url so i can look into it.

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/example/vxlan-default-switch-example.html

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/topic-map/vxlan-qfx-series.html

Thanks

Hi

You can try to use the Static VXLAN if you dont want to use EVPN as the control plane. Below is the link to do that

https://www.juniper.net/documentation/en_US/junos/topics/topic-map/vxlan-static.html

However this option has very limited use case.

Otherwise you need either EVPN or PIM for the control plane to establish the vtep tunnel.

Hope this helps
