JUNOS behavior on BFD remote discriminator change whist session is active

Hi Expert,

I want to know how JUNOS behave when remote peer changes its local discriminator without sending poll bit.

Assume that JUNOS router is connected to Firewall (A/P)mode and due to some reason FW is mastership is changed and hence FW's local discriminator gets changed. Will JUNOS still keep old discriminator when BFD session was initially up (before fiewall mastership was changed) or it updates remote discriminator with the new valure received by newly elected master firewall.

If JUNOS doesn't change the remote discriminator, FW would not respond to BFD and hence the BFD session will time out.

Thanks for your response in advance,

Hi,

If firewall is in active/passive mode, I assume routing information is not in sync between master and backup firewall. In that case, IMO, the existing BFD session with old descriminator should go down and a new session with new descriminator value should come up.

Thanks

Hope this helps
