I have an MX104 with the following license:

License usage:

Licenses installed:

  License identifier: E407853128

  License version: 4

  Features:

    MX104-2x10Gig-port-0-1 - MX104 2X10Gig Builtin Port(xe-2/0/0 & xe-2/0/1) upgrade

      permanent

 

I want to use xe-2/0/2 but I am unclear on which license I need, the only two I can see are:

Product Number                             Product Description

S-MX104-UPG-2x10GE                   Upgrade licence to activate 2 x 10Gbe fixed ports

S-MX104-UPG-4x10GE                   Upgrade licence to activate 4 x 10Gbe fixed ports

 

Can I just buy another S-MX104-UPG-2x10GE or do I need a S-MX104-UPG-4x10GE?

 

I don't want to buy a license that doesn't work but don't want to overspend either.

You can add another 2X10Gbe license i.e. S-MX104-UPG-2x10GE

To verify license once installed, use the CLI commands:
show system license
show system license installed and
show system license keys

Example:
show system license
License usage:
Licenses Licenses Licenses Expiry
Feature name used installed needed
scale-subscriber 0 10 0 permanent
scale-l2tp 0 1000 0 permanent
scale-mobile-ip 0 1000 0 permanent
MX104-2x10Gig-port-0-1 0 1 0 permanent
MX104-2x10Gig-port-2-3 0 1 0 permanent

Licenses installed:
License identifier: E408040024
License version: 4
Features:
MX104-2x10Gig-port-0-1 - MX104 2X10Gig Builtin Port(xe-2/0/0 & xe-2/0/1) upgrade
permanent
MX104-2x10Gig-port-2-3 - MX104 2X10Gig Builtin Port(xe-2/0/2 & xe-2/0/3) upgrade
Permanent

So if you were to install two S-MX104-UPG-2x10GE licenses , the first would automatically show as:

MX104-2x10Gig-port-0-1 

And the second would show as:

MX104-2x10Gig-port-2-3

 

Does that sound right?

I raised a case with JTAC at the same time as this post and they came back with something different:

 

Upgrade license to activate 2x10GE P2&3 MX104 S-MX104-ADD-2X10GE
Upgrade license to activate 2X10GE P0&1 MX104 S-MX104-UPG-2X10GE
Upgrade license to activate 4X10GE fixed ports on MX104 MX104 S-MX104-UPG-4X10GE

 

So if you want to go from 2 to 4 ports it would appear you have to use the "ADD" license.

Hi, sorry for the delayed response. I have not been on here for a while.

 

The distinction is between:
S-MX104-UPG-2x10GE (which adds just port 0&1) and
S-MX104-ADD-2X10GE (which adds just port 2&3 based on having S-MX104-UPG-2x10G)

 

I may have misunderstood but I thought you were suggesting by a second S-MX104-UPG-2x10GE rather than a S-MX104-ADD-2X10GE.
