    Hi folks

I have a new router MX104 with an 10G-XFP card, when I booted the router I don't see the interface xe-0/1/0 in show interface terse output.

Do I have to enable the card first? if so how?

    Thanks a lot

    Hi

    I see 13.3 R8

The XFP card is pluged into the router but I don't see it in the show interface

    Thanks

    Hi,

AFAIK, you won't see it until you plug cable into it and bring it up.

Just like ge-0/1/0-3 interfaces in the EX2200 switch , if you don't plug cable into it , you're not going to see it in the "show interfaces terse" output .

Could you test that and update me ?

    Hi

So how can I assign an ip address to an interface if I can't see it in show output?

    Hi,

SFP ports don't actually show up until you insert an optic. As soon as you do insert the SFP, the port will show up, and you'll start graphing it and assigning IP addresses to it .

    Hello,

It might worth noting here that there's no need for an interface / xfp to be present on the router to actually configure it; even tough the configuration wouldn't do anything, of course.

As long as the naming notation falls within the supported ranges of the platform (i.e. xx-a/b/c where neither a, b nor c exceed the slot count, more or less) you can pre-configure the interface and commit.

    Cheers,

    Erdem

    Hi,

Please try first the xfp into 10g built in port. Please share with us show chassis hardware.
