Packet loss on Removal of Redundant SCB

Hi all

We have an MX960 & on removing the redundant SCB (SCB slot 2) in a fuly loaded system, we experience 10 - 15ms packet loss. Has anyone else experienced this? Surely in a 3 SCB system the switch functionality is shared amung SCBs 0 and 1, or am I missing something?

Hi,

 

If you use MPCs (Trio chipset) then all 3 SCBs are active and therefore this behaviour is normal.

DPCs uses only 2 SCBs...

 If you have a mixed config (DPC + MPC) you'll see the same degradation for traffic that passes MPC and no degradation for traffic that passes only DPCs.

Thanks for your reply. We are using DPCs only, so I thought that SCB 2 was a backup, although there's limited information about SCB  functionality on Juniper's site .

What I know regarding DPC is that each ICHIP can only use 2 SCBs at a time while 1 SCB is "invisible" to all ICHIPs on a chassis ie the removal of SCB2 should be flawless(at least in theory looks like this).
