    Hi folks,
After using "dd" command (KB12170) to create an install-media CF (install-media-11.4R7.5-export) in order to do a scratch JunOS install on RE-400 M7i router (not upgrade), and inserting it into PCMCIA adapter; the router reboots itself in cycling behavior showing the following:

Will try to boot from :
    PCMCIA ATA Flash Card
    Compact Flash
    Primary IDE Hard Disk
    Ethernet
Boot Sequence is reseted due to a PowerUp

Not found any [active partition] in HDD

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
    PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM.

Note: The RE-400 has "blank" HDD 20GB, but has not onboard CF.

Any ideas on this would be highly appreciated.

    Br,
    Diego.

    Well,

I'm not used to that small boxes or this procedure, but from the boot output it uses at least the correct boot order:

Trying to Boot from PCMCIA ATA Flash Card  <<<<<<<<<
Trying to Boot from Compact Flash
Trying to Boot from Primary IDE Hard Disk
Not found any [active partition] in HDD
    Trying to Boot from Ethernet

In this docs it says at the end, that an prompt for yes/no should appear when booting from the emergency boot device (PCMCIA). The reason, that you do not see that, could be:

    - adapter/cf-card not recognized, bad format?

    - bad source image for "dd-workaround" - check md5, should be found on DL pages

    - maybe something went wrong during the "dd-procedure" - try again?

    - enough memory on PCMCIA CF for that image?

    - enough (RAM) memory on RE, although I do not think that is a problem at this point of boot-up.

Thats all I can say. Sorry buddy and good luck.

    Hi Martin,
I bought a new 1G CF, formatted it with FAT32, used "dd" command to create the install-media, inserted CF on PCMCIA slot, then reboot, and it worked fine.

It seems like the CF were damaged.

    Thanks for your help.

    Diego.
