Scale of MPC 3D 16x10GE

‎03-03-2020 04:01 AM

Hi fellow enthusiasts,

I am seeing memory exhaustion messages for MPC 3D 16x 10GE, I am seeing messages like below:

Mar 2 08:47:49  test-re0 fpc0 jnh_partition_ok(13926): jnh_expand_partition failed, inst 3, jnh_app ktree, dwords 65536

Mar 2 08:47:49  test-re0 fpc0 jnh_partition_ok(13926): jnh_expand_partition failed, inst 3, jnh_app ktree, dwords 65536

Mar 2 08:47:49  test-re0 fpc0 jnh_add_prefix_table(343): Table Partition, ktree does not have enough room

Mar 2 22:31:13  test-re0 smid: FPC Resource Monitor: FPC 0 PFE 2 FW / Filter Memory has crossed free memory watermark of 20

Mar 2 22:31:13  test-re0 smid: FPC Resource Monitor: FPC 0 PFE 3 FW / Filter Memory has crossed free memory watermark of 20

  1. How do I identify the maximum scale for the aforementioned card? Can you point to resource or any report on the same?
  2. Is there any knob like “memory-enhanced” that was used to alleviate load from one pool to two memory pools in DPC’s?

Appreciate any help on this in advance.

Hi,

I suggest to open a jtac case or engage your local account team to verify your use case

First, we need to understand how we are using the router which holds your MPC3. What is size of RIB/FIB? How many next-hops and next-hop styles? How many filter terms being used

Second, after we understand why memory is getting exhausted, we can either reduce the scale or find some improment knobs. Simply adding memory might not be a perfect choice for all cases.

Some commands to start with:

>show chassis fpc

>start shell pfe network fpc0

#show nhdb summary

#show filter dram

#show jnh x pool usage

#show route summary

Hi Nexon,

There is no memory-enhanced knob on MPC

show jnh 0 pool composition < for greater details on actual user

Thanks

Hi Mengzhe and vlsingh,

Thank you for your pointers here, yes you are right that there are a lot of parameters than simply plane number for routes it can hold. I was curious to know this so that I could get a ballpark estimate.

But, I will definitely work on getting more info here on the lines of your response.
