Throught performance issue - BGP versus Static route
Had an interesting issue come up this last week at work. Customer was connected and configured to our network, advertising this customers routes by static route to the customer and advertising it out via BGP. After a code upgrade on an upstream device, MX960 14.2r7 from 14.2r3, they went from being able to pass 100 Mbps to struggling to reach 5 Mbps. The only variable that changed was the code upgrade on that single device.
This was resolved by replacing that static with a bgp peering session with that customer, but I'm curious as to what could've caused that or if there's a known bug/issue that crops up when moving to 14.2r7? They were the only one of many connected to the device with similar configurations and no other reports or signs of issues for throughput, routing, or general functionality.
