USB Mount on JUNOS Devices

‎08-13-2011 06:24 AM

Hi Experts

On SRX (Branch) and EX swtiches, I am able to mount the USB using command "mount -t msdosfs /dev/da0s1 /mnt/usb"

BUT on SRX high end and J-Series I am not able to mount the USB. I found some KB ttp://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB10800. But it is showing that, we have to format and label the USB before mountin on the J-series router using dd command from shell.

1- Why for J-series and high end SRX we need to first format and then we can mount the USB

2- Is there any windows based software to format and label the disk instead of using dd commands

3- On EX switches, when I insert the USB what is the good way to know the label of the USB so that I can correctly mount

Thanks

before plugging in the usb dongle, do a start shell.

it will display the dev that is being used.

I have used this method on ALL junos platforms I have encountered so far, ( EX, J, SRX, M, MX )

Yes, we do with T1600 and T4000

The usb needs to be format in FAT32

This is an example:

RE> start shell

% mkdir /tmp/usb

% mount -t msdosfs /dev/da0s1 /tmp/usb
