Hi all,

What reason this failures can be and how to determine the case?

Hi Arix,

I believe you should verify the flow table size and the sampling rate and change/increase the table size to see the counter.

set chassis fpc inline-services flow-table-size ipv4-flow-table-size <>

I would recommend you to read this : [MX] Explanation of J-Flow creation failures on MS-DPC due to 'Num pkt parser fails' and 'Num flow add fails' for more details.

Link 2: https://kb.juniper.net/InfoCenter/index?page=content&id=KB30819

This thread : https://forums.juniper.net/t5/Junos/inline-jflow-errors-increass/td-p/464722 might be of some help as they are discussing about the flow rate and the table size wrt inline jflow.

Hello Arix,

Good day!
Please check the following to isolate the issue.

Check if there is excessive sampling configured on any interface. Configuring sampling can have significant impact on the flow creation. We do not recommend excessive sampling i.e greater than 1/1000 packet. The smaller the sample rate, the bigger the impact. It is recommended to not use a sampling input rate of 1. For example, if you configure a rate of 10, on average every tenth packet (1 packet out of 10) is sampled but we would recommend to configure a rate of 100.

However, if configured, with the current rate there is no export packet failures. This behaviour should be normal

Also, there is a KB which you might want to have a look at.

Regards,
Vishaal

Thanks for replies...

checked and there is no any junos statement for the table size.but following shows 1024

show jnh 0 inline-services flow-table-info

Hello Arix,

By default, the software allocates 1K entries for IPv4 flow tables and thus the value. Can you please check the following as mentioned earlier.

1. Sample rate on the interfaces

2. Any drops on any interfaces

Vishaal

Arix,

I think that is the default value, and per the documentation, Starting with Junos OS Release 16.1R1 and 15.1F2, by default, the software allocates 1K entries for IPv4 flow tables.

Link: ipv4-flow-table-size

Could you check the sampling rate configured as Vishaal mentioned in detail ?

Hello Arix,

Can you try configuring this and see if you still see the counter increase.

set chassis fpc 0 inline-services flow-table-size ipv4-flow-table-size 8
set chassis fpc 2 inline-services flow-table-size ipv4-flow-table-size 8

when putting 15, it is reflecting to 1024

how about 8? when putting this value of 8, what to see?
